DESCRIPTION | This Unit will take students through a journey of discovery of the English language by stimulating their receptive and productive language skills. Beginning with an emphasis on the core writing and speaking skills, the Unit will ensure student participation and practice in the ability to: - Use the appropriate style and register to address readers/audiences; and - Use coherent structures in speech and writing for effective communication. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the Unit the student will be able to: - Explore the structure of the English language; - Key in to different rhetorical structures; - Identify the various features of Englishness in the language. 2. Skills: By the end of the Unit the student will be able to: - Organise and structure written and spoken English; - Write and speak with a specific reader/audience in mind; - Experiment with the English language in various contexts; - Argue in favour and against various propositions.
